Nitasha and Sujoy's CQ bedcover

All the squares of this CQ (crazy quilt) bed cover is ready for Nitasha and Sujoy. It was meant to be given to them in February this year as their 2nd  wedding anniversary present, but I had a little bit left to do. The real reason is that I wanted to give it to them personally and see their faces when they got it. Since they live in Mumbai, i will wait till they come in June to give it to them. Some of the bits of fabrics are from when Tash was a little girl or bits from her favourite Thai's clothes!
I have been dying to post these blocks as they got done (its taken me 2 years) but was really afraid that Nitasha might see the blog. Anyway have decided to put them up anyway, as I would like to record how i have done it.
The squares are 12 inches. I have used a thickish poplin for the backing. Most of the squares have some kind of reference for the kids!

The first two were with the names and birth dates of the 2 kids. I have planned this as a memory quilt as they have both grown up in Kolkata, so made some squares with prominent land marks of Kolkata:

I had planned a square with a stork as Nitasha started expecting her first baby some months after she got married, but now that I am giving it when our darling Sufi is already born and almost a year old,  I have made a square for her. She is the pot of gold at the end of a shining rainbow for all of us in the family and especially for her parents!

Noah's ark for Sufi!

Its amazing how much 'needlework associated' stuff I have collected over the years. I was a great fan of Women's Weekly and subscribed to it for so many years! This was a pattern that came with one of the issues in 1980. I must have wanted to make it for one of my girls, but didn't ...... 31 years later I have made it for Sufi as a present for her Baptism!

Its a cushion for her bed with pockets for all the little stuffed toys and Noah himself!!! I haven't made a stuffed toy for a very long time, so it was fun, much tougher than I thought!

Nishka's Christmas present

I made this for Nishka for Christmas this year. I crocheted it during my recent travels, on flights and waiting at airports! I had bought the wool in Aizwal...a lovely light, soft and spangley 3 ply! The design was simple and something I created on my own. It moved really quickly but was difficult to crochet with as it was a textured wool, and wasn't really meant for crochet where one has to work so much more with knots.

Quick crochet for Sufi

Nitasha said Mumbai was having some freaky cold weather....so please could I make something for Sufi ASAP!!!! So these were 2 quick pieces put together while I was travelling on holiday. The green one is a favourite design that I have used for Sufi's mother it self, when she was a little girl....so I knew the pattern by heart! The other was using whatever 'soft' wool I could find at home and using granny squares as a base! Aunty Pam had made a similar one for Tash when she was about 6. There was always something knitted or crocheted for the girls when we went home to Delhi for Christmas, either jerseys or a blanket....wish we had recorded that!

Nafisa's blanket

Since this blog is about recording and sharing all my 'needle work' stuff.....I thought I would post a picture of a blanket I made for Nafisa a few years ago, in her last year in college. She wanted a blanket with no corners!!!!!It was fun to do, and I was able to use up a lot of my scraps of wool as well, to make this very bright blanket......Nafisa loves it!

Sufi's soft rattle

I made this for Sufi as she is 4 months old and just beginning to reach out and hold her rattle. I got the pattern from the net. I am amazed at the generosity of people on the net, the way ideas for sewing, and patterns are shared! These are from scraps of felt I had lying around!

Zahaan's blanket

Finally, I am being able to add something to this blog. I am so taken up with my painting that any free time I get, that's what I want to do!!! But I really do love crocheting and all the other needle work thingies...that I do need to plan my time better and have time for it ALL!
A crocheted blanket for Ketan and Vera's Zahaan. Nothing very grand, just used all my wonderfully bright bits of wool, which I seem to have so much of! Just simple granny squares which I can do in my sleep! Like the result!
